The Technical SEO Audit Checklist We Run Before Any Engagement

Elena MarshJune 28, 2026 11 min read

Crawl budget, rendering, internal links and entity coverage — the sequence matters more than the tools.

A technical audit that starts with a crawler export usually ends with a spreadsheet nobody implements. We start with business-critical templates and work outward.

Rendering comes first. If your primary content requires client-side hydration to appear, everything downstream is guesswork. Verify the rendered HTML for each template type.

Then internal links. Most sites have their highest-value pages four or five clicks from the homepage while thin blog archives sit in the primary nav.

Only after structure do we look at entity and topical coverage — the gaps that separate ranking in position eight from owning the topic.
